Dr. David Rawson opened his oral surgery satellite office here 16 years ago and although he recently retired, Drs. Scott and Jaclyn Rawson are here to continue serving this town by offering chiropractic, acupuncture, class IV laser and nutrition at Crestview Health and Wellness Center. Dr. Scott Rawson founded CHWC to help those in Crestview and the surrounding areas who are suffering from pain achieve improved mobility, decreased discomfort, and increased quality of life. Rather than solely relying on prescribing pills, Dr. Rawson believes in a natural treatment plan, through chiropractic care, physical therapy, acupuncture, and more. Dr. Rawson’s focuses include back and joint pain management, as well as structural correction; he is also licensed and board certified in acupuncture. Dr. Jaclyn moved to NW Florida in 2017. She has completed over 600 post-graduate hours and is Board eligible for both Internal Disorders and Functional Neurology. By using this extensive knowledge of the human body, she can offer custom and unique health and wellness care to patients of all ages, focusing on individual sessions and working with mothers and their newborns. The staff at our Crestview, Niceville and Perdido Key Urgent Care clinics treat conditions that require prompt attention but are non-life-threatening. Established in 2008, our walk-in clinics are staffed with experienced and friendly doctors with years of family and emergency medical experience. We treat walk-in patients on a first come first serve basis. With three convenient walk-in clinics, you always have immediate access to get medical care for your family. When the high cost of an emergency room visit is unwarranted and your family practice doctor is unavailable, our walk-in clinics afford you access to licensed Florida physicians, prescription medications, and medical technologies. We understand how difficult it can be to get a same day appointment with your Florida physician, and weekends can make this even harder. That is why our clinics are here for you and your family’s medical care. Simply walk into any one of our three locations and our staff will help treat a variety of illnesses, administer flu shots, and perform lab tests. Additionally, our services include access to digital X-ray and EKG machines, school or work physicals, labs & drug screening, and other non-life threatening illnesses. We do not require appointments, and our staff is available to help your family Monday through Saturday. Eglin has played a prominent role in airpower history. In 1931, personnel of the Army Air Corps Tactical School (Maxwell Field, Alabama) looking for a site for a bombing and gunnery range, saw the potential of the sparsely populated forested areas surrounding Valparaiso, Florida, and the vast expanse of the adjacent Gulf of Mexico. A local businessman and airplane buff, James E. Plew, saw the potential of a military payroll to boost the depression-stricken economy in the local area. He leased to the City of Valparaiso 137 acres on which an airport was established in 1933, and in 1934, Plew offered the U.S. government a donation of 1,460 contiguous acres for the bombing and gunnery base. This leasehold became the headquarters for the Valparaiso Bombing and Gunnery Base activated on 14 June 1935 under the command of Captain Arnold H. Rich. On 4 August 1937, the base was redesignated Eglin Field in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Frederick I. Eglin, U.S. Air Corps, killed on 1 January 1937 in an aircraft crash. Militarywww.crestviewchamber.com 55 MILITARY Military Economic Impact Okaloosa County has historically been dependent upon the military presence for its economic sustainment. The defense industry plays a larger role in the Okaloosa County economy than any other single county in the state of Florida—ranging between 70% - 77% of its economic generation. The 2020 Florida Defense Factbook identified Okaloosa’s collective military economic impact to be over $9.4 Billion and providing 79,000 jobs. Team Eglin’s direct defense spending topped $3.7 Billion, and provided the highest economic contribution in the Northwest Florida region towering at 52%—concurrent to the Northwest Florida region providing Florida’s highest overall regional defense impact at 26% for the state. Although the defense economy is a significant driver in the region, it is clearly the primary driver in Okaloosa County—77% of the county’s current economy. Industrial Demographics While Eglin’s military installation encompasses 50% of Okaloosa County’s land mass, the county also successfully houses approximately 300 private defense contracting companies. Six of the Top 10 national defense contractors have a presence in Okaloosa County supporting the second highest defense personnel location in the state, and the highest personnel spending location at $1.5B annually. Okaloosa County is known as the technology hub for Northwest Florida due to its high concentration of STEM industries. Bob Sikes Airport The Okaloosa Industrial Air Park located in Crestview earned its site certification in 2016 through Gulf Power’s Florida First Sites program and is an emerging aviation cluster with numerous aerospace assets. The entire park is 360 acres, with 134.7 acres being certified and ready for development. Bob Sikes Airport features an 8,005-foot runway with a 2,000-foot planned expansion. The area boasts a sophisticated multi- modal transportation network, an award-winning school district, well-regarded post-secondary educational institutions and an abundant, technically trained workforce. 56 www.crestviewchamber.comwww.crestviewchamber.com 57 Business in CrestviewNext >
