Warrenville and West Chicago capture the very best of what “community” means. Community organizations and civic groups nurture the spirit of living and growing together. From garden and book clubs to Citizen Emergency Response Teams or CERT, there is always a place for you to pursue your interest. Couple that with the amenities, award-winning services, and programs available from the libraries, park districts, municipal and county agencies and you will understand why these communities are in such high demand. If you are like most people, top on the list of priorities is quality education and healthcare. If so, you will soon realize that there is no place on the planet that offers better care than our nationally recognized hospital systems. Our communities have what it takes to become and stay healthy and, if necessary, offer the very latest treatment options. When it comes to education, we excel. With 19 accredited colleges and universities, as well as national-caliber public schooling, DuPage County is nurturing generations of brilliant minds. The strength of our workforce is why companies locate and expand here. Technology, Healthcare, Biomedical research, advanced manufacturing as well as construction trades and logistics are all industries that thrive and strengthen our local economy. It is no surprise that of the seventeen federal laboratories in the US, two are in DuPage County. Fermilab and Argonne National Laboratories lead advances in technology and physics. It’s an easy bike ride to Fermilab or a short commute to Argonne for employment or recreation. The city was incorporated in 1967, more than 130 years after the first settlement by the Colonel Julius Warren family near the West Branch of the DuPage River. The Warren Tavern, a hotel and hall for dancing, was built in 1838 by Warren, and is still standing today. Also, the Warrenville Historical Museum is located in a Greek Revival former church building, built in 1858 and once used as a studio by renowned artist Ivan Albright. The population has grown to more than 13,000 thanks to Warrenville’s close proximity to businesses and transportation, including an I-88 interchange at Winfield Road and five Metra commuter rail stations within 6 miles of Warrenville City Hall. The city has prided itself on working with the business community over the years. One shining example of that is the Cantera project, which grew out of a 650-acre former quarry that was located near the I-88/Winfield Road interchange. As a result, businesses in the Cantera area employ more than 10,000, and draw many more visitors to the city every week. Cantera includes residential subdivisions, hotels, banks, a Regal 17-screen RPX movie theater, a Main Event bowling and entertainment center, and many stores and restaurants. Warrenville has created TIF districts in other areas of town as well: • The 177-acre Old Town/Civic Center TIF District No. 3 near the modern city hall, library and recreation center will soon be home to the Stafford Place subdivision, with 27 semi-custom, detached single family homes. • Just slightly further west, the city recently created the 300-acre Southwest TIF District No. 4 to encourage high-quality redevelopment along the Route 59 corridor on the city’s southwest side. This area of town is home to Two Brothers Tap House, where visitors can enjoy a tour of the brewery, lunch, and a sampling of the artisanal beers. Warrenville has taken full advantage of being part of the Illinois Technology and Research Corridor, which features high-tech research and development offices, college satellite campuses, and business headquarters along the frontage roads of I-88. The city also is bordered on the west by Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, which performs cutting- edge research into what makes the universe tick on a subatomic level. Fermilab benefits Western DuPage by offering numerous educational and cultural programs to the public. LIVINGNext >
